I really like the style that Mr. Dynamite is written in. I haven't read any other books, that I can remember, that are written in this kind of narration. By having Jarleth "speak" the way he does in this book, the author really portrays the insides and outs of this character. Jarleth is a pretty crazy character, but i think if this book was written in a standard style of, "Jarleth said this" or "said Jarleth" we wouldn't get half the detail of this character that we do get in this style. Also, some of Jarleth's thoughts or words are hard to follow for me, especially when I first started reading it. I think it might be easier to relate to him if I had a bottle of whiskey on hand while reading.

The exercise we did on Wednesday in class was pretty cool. I've never done an activity like that before. It was funny to hear all the different things that were written as they were read out loud at the end. Writing on the spot like that, without time to think about what to say, was definitely different from most writing assignments that I've ever had.
Creative writing is a good class to take while in college. It helps with the understanding of art and writing, or if not the understanding, at least maybe new ideas on how to approach analyzing it. This course deals with a lot of opinions and thoughts, with very few right or wrong answers if you can back up what you are saying. That's not really a bad situation when so many other class are just memorization and lectures.
